In 1842, the First Methodist Church built this one-story, Greek Revival I-cottage as a wing at the rear of its church building. In 1852, it was moved to its present location at 605 South Fourth Street by John S. Condell. Condell seems to have added some Italianate touches to this house in the form of decorative brackets under the cornices.
